  • Where do I purchase tickets?

    Online through this website: Click the BOOK NOW tab at the top right hand corner of the page.

  • Should I purchase a 24 hour or 48 hour ticket?

    The choice is yours. The ticket commencement time is recorded on the ticket when you board the bus for the first time.

  • How long is my ticket valid for?

    Once you’ve started using your ticket, it is valid for either 24 hours or 48 hours depending on the type of ticket you have purchased.

  • I notice that you have a Summer and Winter timetable? How do I know which timetable is in operation?

    The Summer timetable operates from November 1st - April 30th.
    The Winter timetable operates from May 1st - October 31st.

  • Where does the city loop tour go?

    The Red Decker city loop tour takes place in Tasmania’s capital city of Hobart and the surrounding suburbs of Battery Point, Sandy Bay and South Hobart.

    Hop onboard and enjoy magnificent views of this beautiful city, including local landmarks such as the River Derwent, Tasman Bridge and Mt Wellington as well as an abundance of colonial architecture and city streetscapes.

    If you choose to stay onboard for the full 26 kilometre journey, you will arrive back at your starting point in 90 minutes time.

  • Where do I catch the bus from?

    The first loop departs the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre (corner of Elizabeth and Davey Street) at 9am on the Summer timetable and 10am on the Winter timetable. You are welcome to also hop-on at any of the 20 stops on the loop. Please refer to the map and timetable for specific information on the locations and times the decker is at these stops, as there is likely to be a bus stop close to where you are staying.

  • Can you recommend which stops to hop-off at?

    The Red Decker city loop tour includes 20 stops for you to hop-off and explore. Whether you are interested in Hobart’s history, local attractions and landmarks, shopping precincts, parks and gardens or even wanting to sample some fine Tasmanian food and beverages, there is something for everyone along the city loop tour.

    Popular locations include the MONA ferry terminal at Brooke Street Pier, Salamanca Place, Battery Point, Wrest Point Casino, Sandy Bay Village, Cascade Brewery, Cascades Female Factory, Hobart CBD, Tasmanian Museum & Art Gallery, Maritime Museum of Tasmania, The Tench Penitentiary Chapel, Hobart Aquatic Centre, The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens and Victoria Docks.

  • Do I have to hop-on hop-off?

    No. It is entirely up to you how you use the ticket. Some people use the city loop as a 90 minute city sights tour. Other people choose to stay on for one full loop initially, then plan the rest of their day/days and use it as a hop-on hop-off service. These tours are popular worldwide for a reason. They are fantastic if you just want to stay on for 90 minutes or equally brilliant to use as a hop-on hop-off service over 1 day or 2 days. The choice is yours.

  • If I stay on the bus and don’t get off anywhere how long does the tour loop take?

    90 minutes. If you hop-on at the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre for example, and don’t get off again, you will finish your loop back at the Travel Centre 90 minutes later. For specific timetable information, please refer to the timetable tab on this website.

  • If I do decide to hop-off the bus how long is it until another bus comes to that stop again?

    Summer timetable: If you hop-off at any of the 20 stops around the loop, a decker will return to the stop you hopped off at an hour later. Please refer to the timetable on the website for specific timetable/ stop information.

    Winter timetable: If you hop-off at any of the 20 stops around the loop a decker will return to the stop you hopped off at 90 minutes later. Please refer to the timetable on the website for specific timetable/ stop information.

  • Is there commentary?

    Yes. Hop onboard and enjoy professional and informative commentary that is available in English or, on select buses, a choice of 7 additional languages including French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin and Spanish.   • If I want to come into the city by car to join the city sights hop-on hop-off where do I park?

    There is free parking areas near the Tasmanian Botanical Gardens bus stop, areas in both Sandy Bay and South Hobart (limited). Please ring the Red Decker Shop 03 6236 9116 for directions to these locations.

    There are many car parking stations spread throughout the city. The closest of which is in Argyle Street (opposite the Royal Hobart Hospital). Specific information on car park locations and parking fees can be found at the Hobart City Council’s website www.hobartcity.com.au

  • If I want to come into the city to hop on the city sights tour and I have a motor
    home where do I park?

    There is limited free large vehicle parking areas near the Tasmanian Botanical Gardens bus stop. Alternatively Metro Tasmania run the local commuter bus service and have regular bus services that bring people into the city from most suburbs in and around Hobart. For timetable information on this bus service, please ring the Metro Shop on 132 201 or visit their website www.metrotas.com.au.

  • I don’t know when I want to do the city loop tour. Do I have to make a reservation in advance?

    Once you have made the initial city loop reservation with us you are free to change your date of travel. Your city loop reservation can be altered on board at any time by handing your city loop ticket to the driver or please ring the Red Decker Shop 03 6236 9116 or alternatively via email bookings@reddecker.com.au to change any of your booking details.

    *NOTE COMBINATION TOURS* Due to limited seating and set tour times for any of the combination tours, a specific date and preferred time needs to be selected. If you do change your mind, as long as it is more than 24 hours prior to your tour departure, please just phone or email us with your alternative date and time and we should be able to alter your booking without any problems at all.

  • I’ve already bought my city loop ticket online, but now can’t do it on the day I booked for.
    Can I use it on another day?

    Yes you certainly can. Once you have made the initial city loop reservation with us you are free to change your date of travel. Just jump on board at any time and hand your city loop ticket to the driver. Alternatively please ring the Red Decker Shop 03 6236 9116 or via email bookings@reddecker.com.au to change any of your booking details.

  • I have an Entertainment Voucher or a Let’s go Kids voucher, do I need to make a reservation?

    No. These vouchers can be exchanged for a city loop ticket by presenting them directly to the driver on boarding or please see our staff at our Red Decker Shop at Brooke Street Pier. They are not redeemable through any of our ticket agencies.

  • I have an iVenture card or have a voucher purchased on the Spirit of Tasmania? Do I need to make a reservation?

    No you don’t.

    iVenture cards are activated and redeemed at our Red Decker Shop at Brooke Street Pier. Opening hours are 9am-4pm daily and outside these times on prior arrangement. You are however still welcome to hop on at any of our 20 stops and when you reach our MONA Ferry Terminal/ Brooke Street Pier stop, one of our staff will organise your tickets and/or redeem your iVenture card.

    Spirit of Tasmania paper vouchers will be exchanged for a Red Decker bus ticket when you first board the bus.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

    Your city loop tickets can be used on any day and any date for up to 6 months.

    *COMBINATION TOURS*  however due to limited seating on these tours, they must be used on a specific date and time. If you do change your mind, as long as it is more than 24 hours prior to your tour departure, please just phone or email us with your alternative date and time and we should be able to alter your booking without any problems at all.

    In regards to refunds, for city loop or any of the combination tours, cancellations made within 7 days of booking arrival date incur a 100% cancellation fee. Cancellations made with more than 7 days notice, incur an administration charge of 30% of total booking fee. We encourage our customers to purchase travel insurance to cover any unforeseen circumstances.

  • Is there a senior citizens discount?

    Yes. Red Decker recognise Australian and international seniors card holders. This is what we define as a “concession”.

  • What is the definition of a “concession” ticket?

    A “concession” is a ticket offered at a discounted rate. These tickets are available for people who hold a current student or senior’s card and is offered to licenced travel agents.

  • What is a “child” defined as?

    A child is defined as being between 6 and 16 years of age. Children 5 years of age and under travel free of charge.

  • Do I need to purchase a ticket for my child who is under 5 years old?

    No. Children 5 years of age and under travel free of charge.

  • What is a “family” ticket defined as?

    A family is defined as two (2) adults and two (2) children (children 6-16 years of age).

  • Can I bring my pram on board?

    Yes. There is room for a pram downstairs in the space allocated for wheelchairs. Please apply the brakes and do not leave children or belongs unattended.

  • Are the buses wheelchair accessible? Can I bring my wheelchair on board?

    Yes. All the open top deckers are fully wheelchair accessible. For ramp access we would recommend you board the bus at the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre (corner of Elizabeth and Davey Street) if possible. Yes, you can bring your wheelchair on board. There is an open area specially designed for wheelchairs on the lower deck of the open top buses. Please refer to your driver for instruction on their use.

    *NOTE COMBINATION TOURS* Shuttle buses used for Mount Wellington are not wheelchair accessible.

  • I am a holder of a companion card? Do you recognise this card?

    Yes we do. With every paid tour the “companion” accompanying that person/ client travels for free on all city loop and the Cascade Brewery  combination tours. The companion must be a holder of a valid companion card.

  • Do you operate on Saturdays and Sundays?

    Yes, the city loop operates 7 days a week on both the Summer and the Winter timetable. The first city loop departs the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre at 9am from Sunday to Friday, and at 10am on Saturday.

  • Do you operate on public holidays?

    Yes. The city loop operates on all public holidays except Christmas Day (December 25th).

    On Anzac Day (April 25th) the first city loop departs the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre at 11.00am.

    As some Hobart attractions are closed on public holidays please check all combination tour running schedules by either clicking on to the tours and selecting a date on the Red Decker booking page on the website or please contact Red Decker on 03 6236 9116 or via email bookings@reddecker.com.au and we would be happy to assist you.

  • What happens when it rains when I am on my tour?

    Hobart is the 2nd driest capital city in Australia. If it does on the small chance happen to rain, our open top deckers have fantastic seating available in the lower section of the bus. Alternatively the driver has deposable plastic ponchos available for purchase. On very rare occasions, weather conditions would require a closed topper to be substituted for the open topper. This occurs at the most twice throughout a given year.

  • Do you offer group discounts?

    Yes. For groups over 10 people. Please call 03 6236 9116 or contact us via the website and we would be happy to assist you with your group booking.

  • Why is the frequency different to other locations? For instance in a large city the buses come around every few minutes?

    Visitor numbers to Hobart are not as large as some other cities around Australia or the world that offer a tourist bus service with departures every few minutes. The people that do visit Hobart enjoy all the great sights, attractions, produce and experiences on offer without having to cue or be in huge crowds (keep that a secret though!)

  • Can I buy a gift voucher for friends and family?

    Yes definitely. Just press the book now button and then choose the “buy as a gift” tab.

  • Can I hire a bus for a private charter?

    Yes. Red Decker have a fleet of five (5) Double Decker Buses. Of this, two (2) are open toppers and (3) three have closed tops. The Deckers are available for private hire for weddings, dinner transfers, conference delegate events, leaver’s dinners, wine tours and school groups. Liquor permit available on request.
